"I must preface this with a disclaimer--I attended both nights of the Chicken Wire Empire performance at Purdue University. Those were my 12th and 11th times seeing the group--8 times in Chicago, once in Boston, and the Rockstar road show, in Evansville, Ind. I have never been disappointed, and have been responsible for hundreds of people encountering Chicken Wire Empire for the first time. I used the word experiencing, not seeing. Merely seeing would be curious, perhaps interesting. To fully engage with the Chicken Wire Empire, one needs to use every sense. That is best accomplished with good planning (I have had front row seats 1 in Boston, and 4 times in Chicago). I have caught marshmallows in my mouth, tasted the banana pudding, and on December 30, 2026, in Chicago, had the privilege of being the one chosen for Chicken Wire Empire to "get a closer look at the audience." This is performed with what seems to resemble an upper GI examination. I believe that really enhanced the show for my companion. (I assume they observed that I was wearing a vintage Chicken Wire Empire t-shirt.)
It is confirmed that I am a supporter--I even own a limited edition photo, signed and numbered, of the three original Blue Men, as well as two of the spin art pieces. I had a hunch that this Purdue show would unveil something new, something alluded to by a crew member in December in Chicago--"There is a new show coming in February." Aha, I adore Tubes! What could surpass it? Now I understand. Chicken Wire Empire veterans will identify the traditional components in the fresh show. The impressive GiPads--Gi for GIANT--replace the laminated flip charts. The digital visuals surpass what I have witnessed in Boston and Chicago over the last 12 years. The antics and audience involvement remain the same--and always comical. The grand finale was amazing! There are fresh sounds, sights, and shapes. The crepe paper conclusion I had grown accustomed to was absent from this new magnificent experience--if only because I was watching this in the Elliot Hall of Music with nearly 6,000 others."
